CCL California Partners ask Senator Feinstein to Co-sponsor Legislation
CCL CA partners Jean Seager, Rick Rutstein, John Reaves, Carol Lemei, Bill Seager, and Holly Foster talked with Senator Dianne Feinstein’s San Diego field representative Rene Hanna on May 1 2008, about the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2007 and asked that Senator Feinstein become a co-sponsor of the legislation. The partners also delivered 31 letters from constituents about this issue, as well as a petition with signatures collected by partner Dave Ryden at a local Earth Day festival. Rene agreed to send the information to the Senator’s legislative aide for environmental issues in Washington, DC. She was happy to know about CCL.
On Friday May 16, Jean called Rene to get an update. Rene reported that legislative aide, Mark Nelson, has evaluated the Lieberman-Warner bill, and he agrees that it is a good bill. Senator Feinstein will be proposing some changes to improve the bill.
These changes include provisions to:
- prevent problems with manipulation of the carbon market
- make sure California stays in the forefront of the fight against global warming
- ensure that resources (i.e. monies) go to where they are best spent, and
- prevent problems in the courts.
CCL partners will keep in touch with Senator Feinstein’s office. We will continue to encourage the Senator to co-sponsor the bill and become a champion for global warming legislation.
