LTE to Newsweek - Bias Against Oil and Gas
To the editor: Decreasing our dependence on foreign oil is a laudable goal. Robert J. Samuelson (The Bias against Oil and Gas, May 11/May 18 2009) ignores the fastest, fairest and most transparent way to get there: namely putting a price on carbon. Current proposals for a carbon tax in the House of Representatives would reduce payroll taxes at the same time, thus returning 80 to 90 percent of the proceeds to business owners and employees. It’s a win, win, win, with benefits for national security, business and the environment.
Sincerely,
Jean Seager
